not so great. Backed into a parked car at the local general store... the F150 even has a backup camera but I was watching for cross traffic and they were parked on the side of the road ac ross the street. I partially blame the invisibility of pavement-gray Subaru Imprezas, but mostly I just failed to check the camera at all while backing and didn’t see it. The owner was not a round, and there’s no local police force, and I wasn’t going to wait for the State Police to show up for a fender bender (well, I bent his fender and door, and barely scuffed the bumper of the F150)... in any case, apparently that car was hit TWICE today, according to the owner, who just called me back... like I said, the invisibility of pavement-gray Subaru Imprezas.
THEN...
I broke my HayBob in half. It broke at a factory weld, and it appears the penetration w asn’t that great in the first place, it just took 40 years to finally fail. T oday. It semi-pretzeled itself, so I’m not sure I can repair it fully... but I’m gonna go at it with the welder before I spend $$$$ on a new tedder ( I already have a dedicated rake and was only using the HayBob for tedding any more...)
I am now drinking beer.

Got a decent raise at work and things are generally going well at work. Had an awesome turkey sandwich today which had a generous amount of turkey and good mix of toppings.
Gotta go to the dentist tomorrow to get a mouthguard for sleeping since I apparently grind the living hell out of my teeth while sleeping. Real happy I have full* dental insurance.
*As defined by the insurance company, which is definitely not 100% full but reasonably close
All things considered, not bad. Could be better, could be worse. I’m having sake and watching videos of a guy eating tons of food in Japan, and I’m currently planning a second trip there since I think about it almost everyday since I went last year.

I had a day. Spent most of the morning talking with people who wanted to complain about their leaders and coworkers. Some good conversations.
We also got the estimate for our house remodel. $160k. It included a garage and master bedroom extension. It is about twice what I can afford, so the cool stuff isn’t going to happen.

Not bad. Today was all about shuffling papers. Tomorrow I get to do another site visit. That means I get to crawl around in the nether regions of a building that was flooded.

Welp, so much for glovebagging. Is that tunnel as small as it looks? Plenty of snag points for the suit to catch on...

The last couple of work days I’ve been to 4 different schools to give the maintenance guys a budget to look forward to when the will eventually need to abate.
It won’t be cheap.

I spent my entire day wishing for a painful death, as that would be better than another minute of dealing with the current job.
Unfortunately still here. Oh well. Tomorrow’s another day. But I sure as fuck hope not.

Dirt floor dig-out? Looks like fun.

Yeah, the old building has crawl space, additions have tunnels.
1928 AHBOYS.
RIP.

I know you’re terrified to touch it, but as long as you’re wearing gloves and there is no asbestos dust in the air (or kicked up by touching it), the formed stuff like this really isn’t dangerous. It’s when you’re doing something like scraping asbestos balls off a ceiling or replacing wall/ceiling insulation that it’s ridiculously dangerous.

You’re right. Safe handling is key. I had been going through 4 schools tunnels & crawl spaces to help my company get a budget number together for the school district for the clean up.
Asbestos abatement is my job. A lot of people are freaked out by it or have no clue. A bit of training goes a long way.
I wore a real deal tyvek suit while checking out these areas. They are nasty.

I could go on and on about Japan. A brief summary: you don’t need to know Japanese but even knowing your hellos/goodbyes/thankyous goes a long way. It’s expensive to fly there from Canada, but costs once you get there are really manageable: if you want luxury, it’s available at a luxurious cost. If you have a tighter budget, you can still eat so well without breaking the bank.
